This fruitful group of light creatures of land and water has been by a long shot the biggest offering arrangement of its write subsequent to Republic's Seabee, and one of a little number of such airplane to enter generation.

The La4 arrangement goes again to the Colonial C1 Skimmer, a three spot light land and water proficient which first flew in July 1948. The C1 in the end entered generation fueled by a 110kw (150hp) Lycoming O320 in 1955, and little quantities of it and the four seat 135kw (180hp) O360 controlled C2 Skimmer IV were fabricated before Lake Aircraft obtained the assembling and outline rights in October 1959.

Lake's model La4p was an improvement of the Skimmer IV, and first flew in November 1959. Put into generation in August 1960, the creation La4 contrasted from the Skimmer IV in having more noteworthy wing compass, fortified structure and higher weights.
