City Jet no longer want Stobart air

A strong new European regional airline would have to arise from the merger of city Jet and Stobart air. But the deal is not concluded.

The airline can look back on a long history. However, hardly anyone knows the founded in 1970 Stobart air. That's a good reason. After she first for decades offered flights as Aer Arann on its own account, the Irish airline now only for Other airlines as wet-lease provider is on the way.

Stobart air leads with its 17 aircraft per week through more than 800 flights and transported 1.6 million passengers per year. This attracted attention. Last March city Jet announced it wants to take over the Irish competitor. The merger would have created a large new European regional airline.

Actually everything is prepared

But the date for the signing of the contract shifted further back. Most recently, the two partners hoped that the deal would be in October finalised. To do this, the Stobart air main shareholder Stobart Group had bought shares in the airline to other shareholders and thus became the majority shareholder. Also, she has acquired the leasing company which Stobart air provides the pilot.

Meanwhile, several weeks have passed again. And now has enough city Jet. I have informed the Stobart group to cancel the negotiations, so the airline on Monday (December 5) in a press release. «The transaction was delayed several times. Stobart group, we had set an ultimatum. This has elapsed now», explains city-Jet-chef Pat Byrne. From his experience, such deals would have a certain amount of time of the dynamics. After sinking the attractiveness.

Talks broken off

The Stobart group in turn said the deal was not in the interest of Stobart air. Therefore, you have canceled the talks. Stobart air flies today with 13 ATR72-600, 2 ATR 72-500 and 2 ATR42-300 for Aer Lingus regional and Flybe.
