A computer problem was responsible for the chaos. The automatic exchange of flight plan data between the local ATC Austro Control and the European Eurocontrol was disturbed. It was triggered by a fault in the data line between Vienna and Brussels. «Pilots must pass on their data before the departures to Other control bodies», an Austro Control spokesman for the newspaper said courier.

Normalized operation

Thus the process was delayed and the airport Vienna had to reduce the number of arrival and departures. The airport had a priority long-haul and holiday flights take off and land. There were clusters of waiting passengers in the airport halls. Helpers had raised 500 camp beds for them.

At night, the airport succeeded in to solve the problem. The operation at Vienna Airport was back to normal on Monday morning.
