Tell me, where are all the Boeing 757 are

The Boeing 757 has made in the European passenger transport rar. Approximately 65 percent of the constructed specimens of the slender, elegant two-reflector are in the world still in use.

Originally, Boeing wanted to bring a more developed Version of the very successful Boeing 727 on the market that should also serve as a complement to the in planning the Boeing 767. So the first project plan was a three radiators, under the name of Boeing 727-300. Because of the by then greatly improved, and more powerful of the available engines, it was decided, ultimately, to dispense with the third engine and the new as the Boeing 757 designated two emitters with engines under the wings.

It was planned initially, a Boeing 757-200 with capacity up to 230 seats. In the Consideration of standing shortened Boeing 757-100 with 150 seats was rejected. This Segment remained the Boeing 737 reserved. Instead, a stretched Version of the 757-300, with a capacity of up to 295 seats was planned. As early as 1979 Eastern Air Lines occurred with the order of 21 copies, and British Airways, with the order of 19 copies, as the first customer for the 757-200.

Various Versions

The first flight of the Boeing 757-200 took place on 19. February 1982 instead of, the delivery of the first production aircraft was still in the same year, on 22. December 1982, to Eastern Air Lines. Much of the production was sold in the USA, the largest operator is Delta Air Lines with 177 specimens, of which 16 are of the Version -300, United Airlines with 137 pieces and American Airlines with 124 copies. The biggest European customers of British Airways with 56 copies, advanced, followed by Iberia with 33 aircraft.

Boeing built between 1981 and 2004, a total of 1050 Boeing 757, 995 the Version of the -200 and 55 to the Version of the -300. The Boeing 757 had many similarities with the bigger sister, the Boeing 767, what is air traffic simplified for the first time in the World, and many operational conditions in the operation of both types, including the common type rating for Crews, which were allowed to fly both the B757 and the B767. Similarly, the Boeing 757 occupied by their range of between 4000 and 9000 km in the HE-Version, respectively, of the capacity of 200 to 300 seats (up to 295 for the 757-300), depending on the Version of a previously unoccupied niche.

Today, many freighter

Although the larger Boeing 757-300 was on 2. August 1998 and its first flight had to be built, only 55 times, and from the world's only six Airlines operated. There are, however, in contrast to the 757-200, all in daily use. Of the 757-200 bwurden, 329 specimens taken out of operation.

Originally built by the Boeing 757 is only 80 copies from the factory as a freighter. The so-called B757-200 PF (Parcel Freighter) was ordered from the UPS, which operates even today, 75 copies of this Version. Otherwise, only ASL Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, and Icelandair, the use of this pattern in freight transport. The attempt, the Boeing 757 -200 M Combi-offer failed. Only Nepal Airlines ordered a copy. A great success the renovation of used passenger 757 B757-200 SF (Special Freighter), however, was. The largest operator of this tag are Fedex with 109 and DHL, now with 34 copies. DHL for this project was the Initiator. You bought at the time, 44 specimens of British Airways and had to rebuild from 1999 freighters. The first copy arrived in February 2001 with DHL.

Retrofitting with Winglets

Fedex was specifically former United Airlines-copies of the rebuild. The Boeing 757-300 such plans passed so far, completely. It was manufactured either in a cargo version, it was converted to a freighter, although their capacity and Performance would be quite suitable in the future for such a project.

Also in the military variant of the Boeing 757 is under the military designation C-32A is active. This is solely at the US Air Force and is also used as Air Force Two for the transport of high-level Ministers. Since 2005, Aviation Partners Boeing is offering to increase the efficiency of the conversion of the Boeing 757 with Winglets, which so far, many operators have made use.

Little Accidents

In the passenger version of the 326 Boeing 757-200 at 46 Airlines are currently in use, of the Boeing 757-300, there are all the 55-built specimens with six different airlines. In the cargo version, 287, Boeing 757-200 are 24 airlines around the world. Added to this are nine military C-32A. Thus, 677, and thus, nearly 65 percent of 1050 built B757 still active. In addition, 250 Boeing 757-200 parked and 123 specimens have already been scrapped.

The accident statistics of this pattern can also be seen. There are only six planes have crashed and two had to be written down irreparably between cases. These accident statistics refers exclusively to the Version of the 757-200, the 757-300, the accident statistics is flawless.

Boeing 757-High-Castle-Reykjavik

The accident reasons of the Boeing 757 were in derogation of those of Other aircraft, often in outer influences causes justified and not flight-specific. So were at 11. September 2001, two specimens of terrorists hijacked and made to crash. Two accidents produced in error maintained Pitot tubes false information to the onboard computer, in a crash of a 757 was rammed to the ground by another aircraft, and a cargo-757 collided with a passenger plane. With only one accident, when a Boeing 757 against a mountain flew, was the cause of a flight internal cause, without the above-mentioned external influences.

It was in the 1990s, more than 200 active Boeing 757 in Europe, so there are currently only 140 at 21 different Airlines, including 17 in the Version of the -300 and 44 freighter. In the world Atlanta is in the US airport with the most of the Boeing 757-flight movements. Alone, Delta is recording 632 Starts per week with this pattern, with the distance, followed by New York Newark, where United Airlines 237 weekly Boeing 757 flights per week. In Europe, Reykjavik is in Iceland, a Boeing 757-high castle with 123 weekly departures by Icelandair. The United States is and remains unchallenged on the first place with 457 active Boeing 757 at 18 Airlines, with 191 of these in the cargo version and 37 in the series -300.

The oldest passenger plane flies athlete

The oldest flying Boeing 757 is the prototype with the hull number 1. She always stayed at Boeing and is used as a test plane for new technologies. The N757A graduated at 19. February 1982 first flight. The oldest active passenger-757 is the aircraft number 14 and built in 1983. The N757SS is operated by the American Charter company Paradigm Air Operators for the Basketball Team Houston Rockets. It is an old friend. As a G-BIKE has not been taken over by British Airways in 1983, and went to Air Europe as G-BKRM.

Boeing thought about it for a long time, a Boeing 757 successor, and noted that the market for such a plane is too small. Finally grabbed Airbus the opportunity and further developed the Airbus A321, initially as an A321 Neo, A321 LR, and finally, will probably also be a A321 XLR. Thus, this Airbus has not reached Version only the Performance data for the Boeing 757, but will even surpass this. Current sales figures show the success of this succession pattern.

A321 replaces 757

Had Boeing done well to bring a Boeing 757 Max on the market and there are for the B757-300 is really no market? With only 55 sold, -300 Boeing evaluated these 757-Stretch originally as a failure. But anyone who has a 757-300, not you, which also reflects the fact that all of the 55 specimens of this type are still in passenger use. Not only -300 has been placed out of service or to the freighter and rebuilt.

Certainly, Boeing tried with the B737 MAX 8, 9, and 10, to provide a Boeing 757 replacement, Airbus has in this Segment and quite clearly the nose in front. Boeing is also planning a 797, which is often traded as a B757 successor, although this is not exactly. The Boeing 797 with capacity and range between the Boeing 767-200 and -300, and more of this pattern in the long term replace. Thus they can be considered at the present time, the A321 as a 757-successor.

Some time in the air

The world's largest Boeing 757 operators are Delta Air Lines, with currently 127 copies in use, has placed with Airbus an Order for 127 of the Airbus A321, of which 61 copies were delivered. Also ordered Delta Airlines 100 Airbus A321 Neo. In Parallel, the Boeing 757 fleet has been reduced already from the past 177 on now 127 copies. Therefore, it is expected that more 757 replaced worldwide by A321 aircraft and converted into then either freighters or scrapped. The same fate is likely to befall the current parked fleet, which will probably not find a new buyer.

Thus is the Boeing 757 while on the one hand, for some time, but in decreasing Numbers. Certainly, there will be a market for more freight tags, because the P2F (Passenger-to-Freighter programme) at Airbus currently not preceded in the Segment of the A320 family. Exciting will be to observe in addition to what will become of the 55 Boeing 757-300, for which there is currently no real replacement.
