Greek ATR 42 lands in the embankment

The airport of Naxos was nothing suddenly. Because of a ATR 42 by Sky Express blocked the runway. The pilots had previously maneuvered into a predicament.

With a 901 - foot length, the single runway of the Naxos Island National Airport is fairly Short. Pilots go, therefore, before the Start really until the very end of the runway before you turn your plane. And sometimes you use after that, even the reverse thrust to roll a little backwards, and to gain a few more yards.

This was now the pilot of flight GQ405 from Naxos to Athens on Friday (12 July) undoing. As the local newspaper Naxos press reports, was the ATR 42, Sky Express, namely during the reset maneuver with the main gear from the runway and remained in an embankment stuck. The airport of Naxos had to be closed up on Saturday morning. Only then the machine could be freed from the predicament.

ATR offers quick starter

901 meters of runway for ATR 42 actually too short. The French-Italian turboprop manufacturer speaks of a mini-start distance of 1050 meters, paint. New offers with ATR 42-600S is a Stol variant (Stol = Short Take-Off and Landing), which, when fully occupied, needs 900 meters, with a lighter load is also 800 meters. Sky Express may start, therefore, in Naxos with their ATR 42 is not fully loaded.
