Dispute heats up to U.S. Government contracts

Again JetBlue and Emirates get an American Government order. The big U.S. airlines go on the warpath.

End of 2015 the Government of the United States newly awarded the contract for the flights of their employees to Dubai to JetBlue. Explosive it is, that the airline does not itself performs the flights, but her partner Emirates. Now, another government order goes indirectly to the code-share partner of JetBlue, as the Reuters news agency reported. It is for flights from New York to Milan in the year 2017.

Rebels, however, Delta Air lines: the award would undermine the fly America Act, argued the airline. Therefore, funded travel by local providers would have to performed by the taxpayer. US firms and jobs should be encouraged.

Hypocritical nonsense

The fly America Act but allows exceptions for the sharing. Delta and American airlines would this also use, JetBlue Chief Robin Hayes said in an interview, and countered the criticism by saying: "This is clearly hypocritical nonsense."

American Airlines, previously responsible for the route New York - Milan, has got the job from Chicago to Abu Dhabi for 2017, but perform the flights by Etihad Airways. The airline argued that US airlines on the route New York - would offer flights Milan itself. On routes where this was not the case, you, however, have no Other choice than to bet on foreign partners.

Price war towards Europe

The competent Federal Government GSA informed all their contracts were in compliance with the fly America Act. The dispute is especially explosive because Delta and co. in the price war with Emirates. You have already reduced prices to get their machinery fully to Europe, and accuse the Gulf airlines to be subsidized. Emirates denies that.
